noh - hannya no usagi

"Noh (?), or Nōgaku (能楽?) is a major form of classic Japanese musical drama that has been performed since the 14th century. Many characters are masked, with men playing both the male and female roles. The repertoire is normally limited to a specific set of historical plays. A Noh performance often lasts all day and consists of five Noh plays interspersed with shorter, humorous kyōgen pieces."

japanese theater is truly amazing! if you've never seen how they dress and perform, you should really check it out - you're in for some really inspirational stuff.

In other news, jenn's fierce battle against the spider population in her house has taken a bloody (hemolymph-y?) turn - i killed one in the yard today. i regret it, and fear retaliation.

gyrodactylus, dactylogyrus?

inspired by a discussion on frog parasites. i know it doesn't make any sense.

pretty sure parasites are really disgusting. but also interesting.
on about the same note, i bought the rise and fall of the third reich today.

on a lighter note, listen to iron & wine. it's good for you.

if anyone is interested in buying art from me, let me know... i have a few pieces i'm willing to part with, and i'd love a new ipod, please~! :)

posting...

so apparently you can only post comments if you have AIM or blogger, or something weird like that. but you can always stalk me on facebook, and tell me what you think there! :3
EDIT: i just had to switch it to 'anybody can comment'. epic fail.

this is a coloured pencil sketch that i started and decided i will never finish (mostly because i sat on it today and it is destroyed...) good thing i scanned it first! :)
it is obviously pieced together, sorry about the poor quality... FAIL

cho or han?

happy election day! i'm afraid it has not been perfectly happy for me... the next person who asks me if i have voted will see me completely unspool. :)

cho-han bakushi is a japanese game using two dice, which are shaken by the dealer in a bamboo cup or bowl. when the dice are released, the gamblers place wagers on whether the sum of the numbers showing on the dice will be han (odd) or cho (even).

i'm trying to make my doodles more coherent and clear. i don't really know if it's working, but i think the sketchblog will help.
